MOON PARTY - Backhaus Dance Company

Choreography by Bret Easterling

Costume Designed by Jenny Lynn Deck

Assisted by me.

This playful and campy piece of dance theatre was full of bright colors and alien lifeforms.

BLOOD SHAWL

Blood Wedding - UMKC Theatre

Designed by Jordan New, this blood shawl was constructed by using freehand machine embroidery over various cording. I used dissolvable fabric to create the structure of the garment. Once the cording was embroidered down using clear synthetic thread, the body of the garment was dissolved, leaving the "blood shawl" behind.

PERIOD FROM MODERN

For this project, I purchased a women's suit set and converted it into an 1880s riding bodice.

DENIM PROJECT

I constructed this doublet inspired garment from a pile of old jeans and some scrap plaid fabric. The goal of the project was to incorporate the elements of the jeans into the design rather than simply creating a denim textile. With that in mind, I designed, draped, and constructed this garment.

FANTASY DOUBLET

I was given a box of scrap fabrics and the prompt was "Fantasy Doublet/Vest".

I first draped a mock-up while evaluating the quantity of each fabric type. My design for the project is intentionally asymmetrical and has a futuristic flair.

DRAG FROM CURTAINS

A green striped curtain with a floral ruffle was found at a thrift store. Using only the materials from said curtain, I designed, patterned, and constructed a drag costume.

FABRIC MANIPULATION & DYE WORK

Sewing sampler blocks showcasing a variety of my fabric manipulation skills. There are also a number of dying and fabric painting samples I've done using a number of methods including resist, batik, Shabari, and block printing.
